Gambling

Problem gambling has been called the “hidden addiction” and is gaining recognition as a public health issue similar to alcoholism and drug dependency. Problem gambling is defined as participation in any form of gambling to the extent that it creates negative consequences to the gambler, his or her family, place of employment, school, or community. Based on national studies, it is estimated that about 2-3% of Massachusetts’ general adult population has experienced a gambling problem in their lifetime (Facts About Disordered Gambling). As Massachusetts lawmakers and the public discuss the merits and concerns about expanding gambling in the Commonwealth, we want to contribute to the discussion by making information available to you. Below are links to state and national resources so you can learn about gambling.
