Out of School Time

Out of school time programs play an important role in prevention. Most of children’s time is spent out of school, including the after school hours where risky behavior sometimes happens. Communities that provide programs for out of school time learning (including before and after school as well as summer learning), are giving their young people the best possible chance at succeeding in school, health, and life.

The Hampden County Regional Employment Board operates the Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative/WestMOST Networkk in Western Massachusetts. The Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative (HSLI) is a systems-change effort in western Massachusetts designed to stem summer learning loss by improving the quality of and access to summer opportunities for low-income children and youth in western Massachusetts.

Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care funds and issues licenses for out of school time programs in Massachusetts. Their website includes information for providers, news, and information about the department.

The Massachusetts After School Partnership (MAP) seeks to expand afterschool and extended learning opportunities for school-age children, youth, families and communities. MAP provides advocacy, education, and networking.



National Summer Learning Association's mission is to connect and equip schools and community organizations to deliver quality summer learning programs to our nation’s youth to help close the achievement gap and support healthy development.

The After School Alliance works to ensure that all children have access to affordable, quality after school programs. Their website includes fact sheets, reports, and information about its national awareness project known as Lights on For After school.

The Wallace Foundation has been a long time leader in promoting after school programming. Their website has information about funding, resources, and reports.
