The Massachusetts Partnership for Healthy Communities, a program of The Medical Foundation, Inc. is making available 6-8 1/year planning grants of up to $10,000 available to communities in Massachusetts to help communities develop a comprehensive plan to improve the health of people within their respective community. More information and the Request for Proposal (RFP) form are available at www.masspartnership.org.  Notification of Intent to Apply (electronic/telephone) is due May 15th and final proposal is due June 30th.

The MA Partnership 6 years old and has worked with 300 people from 32 cities and towns in the commonwealth from Fall River, to Reading, to Southbridge, and Great Barrington among others.  Several towns have made significant progress in expanding their resources to improve the quality of live of their residents through this effort.  

Funds to support this initiative are made available through the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital Community Benefits Program, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health

Question:  Are you working with a group of young leaders who could add tobacco to the issues that they are addressing in their communities?

If so, the Western Massachusetts Center for Healthy Communities would like you to apply for a two+ year grant to support their efforts.

Across Massachusetts Regional Youth Advisory Groups will be informing statewide tobacco initiatives, building youth leadership, community organizing and advocacy skills as they work on the issue of tobacco in their communities, their region, and their state.

The Youth Action Initiative (YAI) is a program designed to educate and empower young people age 12 to 18 to counteract tobacco marketing, change social norms around tobacco use, and reduce youth tobacco use in Massachusetts.

Grants are available to Massachusetts youth groups to help implement projects, campaigns, and policies that prevent or reduce tobacco use among young people.

The Public Welfare Foundation is dedicated to supporting organizations that provide services that meet basic human needs for disadvantaged populations. They take a particular interest in efforts that combine elements of service, advocacy and empowerment in their approach. The average grant size is $42,000 and deadlines are ongoing. New Voice Fellowships to Support Nonprofits and Promising New Leaders Committed to Social Justice and Peace The two-year grants offer support for salary, fringe benefits, financial assistance, mentoring, and a professional development account for a promising new  leader. Western MA Funding Resource Center.  WMFRC is a library and training center that helps nonprofit and grass roots organizations in Western New England raise funds. A Cooperating Collection of the Foundation Center, they offer workshops, free orientations to the library and research process, free access to databases of funders, reference books and technical assistance resources. Open Meadows Foundation Funding for Women and Girls and Social Change.  Deadline: February 15 and August 15, annually.  The Open Meadows Foundation funds projects that are designed and implemented by women and girls; projects that have limited access to financial resources and which reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of our society and promote the empowerment of women and girls; and projects for social change that have encountered obstacles in their search for funding. Open Meadows provides grants of up to $2,000 to cover start-up expenses or to support ongoing projects. Projects focusing on indigenous women or young women activists may also receive funding from the foundation's special funds: the Jeanne Meurer Indigenous Women's Fund, the Ellen Dougherty Activist Women's Fund, and the PatsyLu Fund for women's music projects. CISCO Systems, Techsoup.org Launch Nationwide Product Donation Program -  This partnership gives nonprofits access to Cisco's networking solutions at  reasonable prices and links them with on-going technical support from TechSoup and Cisco.  Cisco subsidizes the purchase of equipment and offers a one-year technical support contract.  TechSoup provides nonprofits with information about  networking, offers easy access to product donations through its online distribution service DiscounTech and counsels  users on purchasing decisions.  Products and eligibility guidelines are available on DiscounTech http://techsoup.org/discountech, TechSoup's  distribution service.

Telehealth Network Competitive Health Grant.  The Telehealth Network Grant Program will award grants to demonstrate how telehealth network projects in rural areas, medically underserved areas, frontier communities, and medically underserved populations can be used to:
(a) expand access to, coordinate, and improve the quality of health care services; (b) improve and expand the training of health care providers; and (c) expand and improve the quality of health information available to health care providers, patients and their families. This program is a competitive, merit-based grant program. Hasbro Children's Foundation Announces Funding Guidelines.   A philanthropic program of toy and game manufacturer  Hasbro, the Hasbro Children's Foundation is committed to improving the emotional, mental, and physical well-being of children from birth through age twelve and their families  through the support of innovative direct service programs  in the areas of health, education, and social services.  The foundation funds not-for-profit organizations only. The foundation places the highest value on ensuring caring  and consistent person-to-person services for the most vulnerable children and their families. American Dental Association Foundation Invites Proposals for Children's Oral Health Programs The http://www.ada.org/ada/prod/adaf/index.asp  ADA Foundation, the charitable arm of the American Dental Association, has established a permanent endowment fund dedicated to the prevention of childhood caries and oral health maintenance for children. The Harris Fund will award competitive grants to applicants whose oral health promotion programs are designed to improve and maintain children's oral health through community education programs.

Avon Foundation -- Women's Economic Empowerment. 
Application Deadline: The Avon Foundation has a rolling deadline; however, proposals should be sent as early in the calendar year as possible.  Description: The Avon Foundation supports organizations and programs that provide women with economic opportunity. The Home Depot.  Application Deadline: Proposals are accepted throughout the year.  Description: The Home Depot is committed to giving back to the communities where its associates and customers live and work. To make a significant impact, it concentrates its efforts in four key areas: affordable housing, at-risk youth, the environment, and disaster preparedness and relief. New Online Training Available for SAMHSA Grant Applicants.  Following up its popular and informative April webcast, "Understanding SAMHSA's Grant Application Process," the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, now has published an online video-based training to provide grant applicants with additional information about preparing applications.  The training uses video and synchronized PowerPoint slides to provide an overview of key elements that every grant applicant should clearly understand. This program entitled, "Tutorial: Understanding the Grant Application Process," can be found on SAMHSA's Web site at http://grantstraining.samhsa.gov/ .
