Social Justice Mediation Institute

5 day training intensives

May 26 - 30, 2008

August 24 - 28, 2008

Amherst, MA

The use of mediation in organizations and on college and university campuses is touted as an effective means for resolving disputes, reducing tensions, and improving communication. Despite some demonstrated success in these areas, recent research shows that it also routinely reproduces racial and other privileges both structurally within an institution and interpersonally between disputing parties.

During this institute we will examine this dilemma and train mediators in an approach designed to address issues of identity and power imbalances.

The trainers have offered this training at dozens of campuses and organizations, preparing mediators to handle multicultural disputes.

Cost of training: $990 for a 5 day training, materials, continental breakfast and lunch each day. For more information go to www.sjmediation.org  or contact Leah Wing, Ed.D. at lwing@legal.umass.edu.
